During June, Bing had been running tests on the amount of results shown following a search. In some cases, the search engine shows more than its usual standard 10 results per page. It appears the company has decided to retain these experimental changes.
Google has been presenting as little as 7 results per page, meaning that there’s a lower chance of getting your website on the first page of Google.
The second page of results displays 11-20, whereas the third page displays 23-32 (via Bing)
Bing have commented that they are conducting continuous testing and experimenting for improvements to the user experience for the search engine. Last year, the company experimented with new formats, and the numbers of listings, and has stuck with the experiment conducted in June. Further search results, known as answers on Bing, such as image results, news stories, or videos are included alongside traditional website links. As a result, results numbers often seem irregular. This is to be expected, however, as Bing accounts for other result types.
Internet marketing experts are forced to adjust their SEO analysis techniques to cater to these new changes in Bing.
Update: It seems Bing has changed the search results number back to the standard 10. It’s uncertain why Bing has done so after issuing a statement. We’ll keep you updated.
