What are Core Web Vitals?

For those who have no clue what we are on about, core web vitals are a set of metrics designed to help us measure how well the site is performing for visitors. You can find these in Google Search Console.

They are not set in stone, which means they can change year to year depending what users expect from a good site – so it’s important to keep up to date and add checking search console into your schedule.

These are paired up with the existing user experience signals (in grey below) to help Google decide where your site should rank on SERPs.

  • Loading (Largest Contentful Paint LCP) – This is the time it takes for a page and its content to loads. An ideal LCP is 2.5 seconds or quicker.
  • Interactivity (First Input Delay FID): The time it takes for a page to become interactive. The ideal time is less than 100ms.
  • Visual Stability (Comulative Layout Shift CLS): This is the amount of unexpected layout shift of a page and its content. The ideal amount is less than 0.1.
