Even as new forms of paid search engine marketing (sem) such as display and video ads take advantage of Google's Display Network spanning outside of the search engine, Google are still offering improvements to the reliable ol' text ad for adsense marketing. Recent changes, rolled out earlier in the month, improve the consistency of appearance across platforms and devices, for both advertisers and searchers. This marks the biggest change so far to the visual interface, displays a clickable arrow icon and adjustments to font sizes, spaces and general text layout. The changes have resulted in a higher amount of clicks from publishers across the network. The colour of the arrow icon will depend on the colour palette selected for your ad units. If you have white ad units, your icon will appear grey, and for other coloured backgrounds, the icons will be a different shade. Even as newer formats are being introduced, Google have promised to continue improvements on text ads. For both Adsense and PPC ads, text ads are still very important for advertisers.
