When you release a new version of your website, whether it is a complete redesign or a minor update, it's important that you check to see that everything is in order from a search engine optimisation perspective. It's easy to accidentally implement several common problems. I'll outline these common problems:
Nofollows on internal linksMeta robots noindex added to pagesRobots.txt updated to disallow: /All title tags are set to the homepage301s removed for canonicalisationVanishing H1sContent going AWOLChanging URLsProduct canonical tags set to category URLsRemoval of Analytics tracking code It's important that, if you have a team, everyone is at least somewhat versed in SEO. Not everyone has to be an expert—that's why you might employ a digital marketing agency or company—but a basic understanding aids the process so much. With SEO at the epicentre, you might be dealing with website developers, designers, copywriters, traditional marketers, PR, and a plethora of other professionals. For ease of communication, it's beneficial to train each of these links with a grounding in SEO knowledge so that they can work in conjunction with the SEO agencies and do not inadvertently work against them. This is a glaring flaw within a lot of companies. Just because your sector doesn't directly involve SEO doesn't mean you shouldn't have a working knowledge of it or how your role/work affects it. SEO can be a laborious process, and it's probably best to have a checklist of actions to tick off when performed. There are several small actions that are easily overlooked, especially when considering tags and HTML. Make a checklist of each individual step to ensure that everything is fully functional, and in proper working order.Post navigation
