Internet Traffic Expected to Quadruple by 2015

I read that quote the other day about how Internet traffic is expected to be four times bigger in 2015 than it is now. That is a ridiculous statistic—four times more people on the Internet than today! The Internet is about to become an overcrowded place. But you know this is so far from a bad thing; more people on the internet means more potential customers for you, but it also means you will likely see more competition appearing. You will need a few things if your business is to survive in the coming years. I will quickly touch on the hazards of a crowded Internet and how to combat them.

Being Visible: Let’s be honest: what use is a website that nobody can see? Unless you’re going out on the street with a placard telling people about your website or spending a small fortune on an above-the-line campaign, it’s going to be very hard for people to just stumble across your site. One of the best ways to get your website noticed is by using an effective SEO campaign and making it rank on search engines. Think about it yourself: when was the last time you wanted to find out about something and didn’t know where to start? You used a search engine, didn’t you? Probably Google, because that’s the search engine that most of us use every day. With more websites popping up over the next few years, you want yours to be the best and stand out. Many users only click on the first five results for their search query on Google, so ranking highly is crucial. Quality SEO tactics to avoid the likes of the recent Panda update... When getting your website SEO optimised, make sure you use a provider that practices good optimisation strategies. There are a lot of bad practices out there when it comes to optimising a website. I won’t go into them in too much detail, but an SEO company should be looking after your campaign and conversing with you regularly. Making sure they are targeting the right words at the right times of the year, e.g., winter clothing at the peak of summer, is a waste of their time and your money. Google does target these bad SEO tactics too; for example, they dropped the Panda update to the search engine algorithm, which pushed all websites using poorly managed link building and those websites that were linking to poor quality websites. To avoid being caught out in the future by these updates, just practice good SEO, and you’ll be fine.

The Money Pit Pay-per-click advertising is brilliant; for instance, sponsored links on Google have your website listed right at the top of a search query for everyone to see. But, you have to pay to be up there, and you have to fork out every time someone clicks on your ad. So unless you’re getting the right people clicking on your links, you're spending money on the wrong people. A PPC campaign has to be managed well. An internet marketing business that can do your PPC management for you will only cost you a fraction of your entire spend, and they will make sure that your ad is running as efficiently as possible, eliminating any waste and driving down your cost per acquisition (CPA). Having a voice Social media has been penned as the fastest-growing industry in the world right now. Facebook alone has 500 million active users. So it would make sense if you tried to cash in on this. Creating an online profile for your business can make your company's image a world of good. Using social networking sites like Twitter, you can reach out to new people and spread your brand online. Also, you can use it to reward existing customers for customer loyalty. It’s a tough place out there on the internet. A brilliant new company’s springing up out of the ground every day, threatening your company. But as long as you arm yourself with some of these weapons in online marketing, you’ll do very well.
