Link Spammers Less Likely to Show up in Search from Summer
Google’s Matt Cutts recently addressed some major points within Google’s Penguin update (2.0) via a short webmaster video released on his website http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/what-to-expect-in-seo-in-the-coming-months/. Within his presentation Matt claimed that Google will be taking a stronger stance against those using advertorials, adverts disguised as paid articles or journals, by ensuring they do not feature as highly on the search engines. Google are also continuing their clamp down on black hats going “upstream” by ensuring that sites are ranked depending not only on the amount of links to and from sites but on the quality of the links themselves. Google de-indexed many large link networks in the last year and Matt Cutts’ stated in his presentation that this will continue with the new algorithm. The new and more “sophisticated” link analysis software should aid Google’s purge of black hat links, enabling ethical online marketing experts in charge or shaping SEO plans for businesses. In fact, the changes that Google are implementing should not impact too greatly on those utilising white hat SEO techniques, but those on black hat forums trading spamming tips should have, as Matt quotes, a “more eventful summer”. The Google webmaster services are also receiving an upgrade. Google have pledged to offer more assistance if your website is hacked, giving a new place to go get advice, clean up your website and restore it to its former glory. Google is also aiming to give higher site priority to authorities from certain businesses such as those in the medical and travel sector. Domain clusters in the first few pages of Google results are to be reduced significantly. This should help SEO within smaller or less promoted businesses. These more individual results give the chance for businesses to rise up Google positions. There is also software being developed so that if a cluster of results are ignored early on they will not repeat further down the results also giving small businesses more chances to get noticed. Ultimately Google are once again refining their algorithms to ensure that the websites that rank highly are the most relevant, reputable and reliable for the search term given. A good SEO company will ensure that they play by Google’s rules and spend time building a site based on these main principles. Those SEO companies that concentrate on finding the fastest cheat to the top may find themselves damaging the reputation of their sites and even end up being blacklisted by Google with the new Penguin algorithm being launched. With the clamp down on black hat websites and more complex algorithms it pays to have online marketing experts on your site. At Digital Clicks we have the experience and knowledge to expand your SEO and get your website noticed.
