Seasonality in SEO | The Digital Clicks Blog

One of the most important things to consider when you are search engine optimising a website is your keywords and monitoring these keywords. Every month, your keywords should be analysed and studied to make sure that you are getting the most out of everyone. For instance, if you are optimising for 15 keywords, you need to make sure that you are optimising the best 15, that those keywords are the most relevant and are delivering the most website traffic. But one thing many people completely overlook when it comes to selecting keywords is seasonality. This won’t apply to all businesses, but for some, some of your products and services will only be relevant for part of the year. In this example, you own an online clothing retail store. During different times of the year, people are going to be searching for different items of clothing; for instance, the search term “winter coats” is most likely to be highly searched in the months leading up to winter. But for you to be optimising “winter coats” all year round is going to be a waste of time and resources. Also, something to keep in mind is how long it takes for your keywords to start performing after starting to optimise. So if you want your website to rank for winter coats when people are going to need to buy winter coats, start optimising for those keywords a few months before you need them to be relevant. Seasonality is something that, if relevant to your business, needs to be monitored if your online marketing campaign is going to be successful. Either that or you won't survive the winter as your competitors optimise to survive.
