LinkedIn is becoming an increasingly important social network and is very important in the professional world. It is a great way of connecting with professionals and networking. Here are our top 10 tips: 1. Never miss a chance to connect: Connect, connect and connect. Connections are like currency on LinkedIn and your first level connections will lead to more. 2. Make sure your profile has rich visual content: Make use of the background and the profile picture. Also post visual content on your page such as videos. 3. Be more human: This is the same for all social networks, connecting like a human helps create that personal relationship you want. 4. Get involved in discussion groups: Discussion groups are there to get involved in. Aim at groups within your business interest, they are more likely to be more effective and create greater interaction. 5. Provide valuable content: Make sure the content you share has value to your connections and fits in with their interests. The content you share in discussion groups has to have high value. 6. Use LinkedIn for networking: A common misconception is that you are only to make a connection when you have met someone, either through an event or other means. The great thing about LinkedIn is that you don’t have to know people to connect and share interests, or do business with each other. LinkedIn is all about building your portfolio of connections for mutual gain. You can also meet new connections through existing ones. 7. Import your email contacts as connections: LinkedIn allows you to import your email contacts. This is a very useful tool as it allows you to see all the members on LinkedIn you have had email contact with and means you don’t have to go through manually typing in names to request a connection. 8. Ask connections to leave you recommendations: This is a very good way to market yourself. Having recommendations on your page is great as it shows that people trust you personally and value your work. 9. Post consistently: Ensure you have structure to your posts. Conduct some research to find out when the most effective times to post would be. Keep posts professional. Remember that LinkedIn is for business people, so talk to users on a high level. 10. Follow relevant groups: This is a great way to see what is going on in the industry. It is also a good way to get connected in the industry.
