The Importance of Link Building | The Digital Clicks Blog
Link building is an important part of SEO and increasing your rankings online. I won't bog you down with all the techno-mumbo-jumbo, but I’ll explain how it all works and how it benefits your website. There are a lot of different things that contribute to your online rankings throughout an SEO campaign, which we've touched upon before, but link building is the practice of building relationships with other websites and getting those websites to link to yours. Simple Right? Wrong. Websites and those links to your website carry a ‘weight’, and the greater this ‘weight’, the better the influence on your ranking. A website's theoretical weight is determined by the quality of the site. Typically, a website that weighs more has quality content and has a good ranking on Google itself. A website's weight is normally referred to as a site PR (page rank) and then a number, so a website that isn’t worth much is classified as a PR1 website, and the higher the number, the better. A very important thing to consider is that quality always outweighs quantity in link-building practices. 10 PR1 links are worth a lot less than one PR10 link. Some SEO providers use shady tactics to build hundreds of poor-quality links. This is normally because link building can be very time-consuming, but when you get those high-quality links, the rewards are worth your time. Relevance is also a contributor to link weight. A link from a PR12 website that is irrelevant to your website would be worth less than a link from a relevant PR10 site. Link building can be a very long and tedious process, especially when you aren't getting those high-quality links, but fortunately for you, you don’t have to worry about all of this time-consuming bother because your SEO provider or anyone else looking after your Internet marketing campaign will do all of the work for you.
