The Panda Update | The Digital Clicks Blog

If you haven’t heard about it by now, Google rolled out an algorithm change to Google search not too long ago, in February in the US and April in the UK. It was Google’s way of combating low-quality websites ranking higher than high-quality websites on Google searches. But it has affected everyone with any search engine optimisation at all, crippling many companies' internet marketing efforts. Whether your website is being optimised by an SEO company or you are optimising yourself, your online marketing is likely to have been affected. Some websites have seen up to a 90 per cent drop in traffic because of a massive drop in search engine rankings. It has mainly affected websites that have had a lot of outbound links (backlinks) to other websites; these are heavily present in websites using a lot of banner advertising. There are also websites that you’d call ‘content farming sites, which host a lot of other people's content. A good SEO company will ensure that they are performing ethical SEO techniques, avoiding the effects of such updates. Everyone in the internet marketing business has had to keep on their toes to not be affected by this update. I think that a panda is a perfect metaphor for the online marketing industry; it seems harmless, but you can’t turn your back on it just for a second, otherwise, it will kill you.
